WHITE-SCOTT HOME, White Street
Ca. 1836 the first portion of this house was built, probably by George Steele for George Cox. In 1844, Thomas W. White bought and enlarged it for his family. The original outbuildings still stand. White descendants occupy it today. Sketched in 1978 by Leon Trice Hinds.
Each summer when relatives came from far and near to visit, the kitchen was busy with good things being prepared for all of us to eat. Hot rolls were Cousin Maria White's specialty. Five generations of Whites have lived in the "old house", as Susan Bradley White (my great great-grandmother) was known to call it.
